Dr. Gautam Soparkar
MD, FRCPC

Dr. Soparkar joins PEAK Sleep with over 20 years of experience in the field of Sleep. He is a dedicated Respirologist with special interest in the treatment of sleep apnea.

Dr. Soparkar is a current Adjunct Professor at Western University, and former Associate Clinical Professor at both McMaster University and the University of Saskatchewan.
He is a published author having published “The Quick and Easy Sleep Apnea Book” and “Questions and Answers in Sleep Apnea” as well as textbook chapters and multiple international presentations.

Dr. Shariqa Raoof
MD, FRCPC

Dr Shariqa Raoof is a medical graduate of University of Karachi (2000) who, upon completion of Board Certification in Internal Medicine from The Medical College of Georgia, advanced to sub-specialization in Sleep Medicine from the University of Miami. She is a Board-Certified Sleep Specialist who has been active in the clinical management of a wide spectrum of sleep disorders for the past decade.

Dr Raoof is a peer and IHF assessor with the College of Physicians and Surgeons and has trained sleep specialists. She also teaches at McMaster School of Medicine where she is an assistant (adjunct) professor.

Her research and areas of interest include Narcolepsy and cannabinoids, REM Behavioral Disorder and Central Sleep Apnea in subclinical cardiac failure.

Dr. Avishay Perl
MD, FRCPC

Dr. Perl serves as the Medical Director of PEAK Sleep Mississauga.

He is an experienced respirologist with over 40 years experience and is currently on staff at Trillium Hospital.

Dr. Nizar Naji
MBChB, DipMM, MSc, FRCPI, FCCP, FRCPC

Dr. Naji is a highly experienced Sleep Medicine and Respiratory Specialist. Following practice as a consultant physician in Dublin, Ireland he moved to Canada in 2011 where he trained in Sleep Medicine and Respirology at the world-leading Firestone Institute for Respiratory Health at McMaster University. He subsequently relocated to Windsor, Ontario where he continues to practice in both Sleep Medicine and Respirology. In addition to his role as a consultant physician with PEAK Sleep London he is an Adjunct Professor at the Schulich School of Medicine at the University of Western Ontario.  

He has extensive experience managing the full breadth of sleep disorders including sleep apnea, idiopathic hypersomnia, narcolepsy, restless legs syndrome/periodic limb movements, and REM Behavioral Disorders. His clinical and research interests involve the cardiac impacts of sleep apnea syndrome and the relationship between sleep apnea and bronchial asthma.

Dr. Akash Saxena
MD, FRCPC, ABIM

Dr. Saxena graduated with a medical degree from McMaster University and completed postgraduate training in Internal Medicine at the University of Saskatchewan before undertaking a fellowship in Respiratory Medicine from McMaster University.

He also completed a fellowship in sleep disorders at the University of Western Ontario, He is board certified in Sleep Medicine in both Canada and the United States.

Dr. Vivian El-Kholi
MD, FRCPC

Dr. El-Kholi is a board certified Psychiatrist and a member of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. She has over 30 years experience in the sub-specialty of Sleep Medicine and in addition  to her role at PEAK Sleep Mississauga, Kitchener, and London, she currently serves as an emergency Psychiatrist throughout the Greater Toronto Area. Prior to this, Dr. El-Kholi was the Director of Outpatient Clinic and Emergency Psychiatry program for William Osler Health System, and was the recipient of the 2010 William Osler Clinical Excellence Award.

Dr. El-Kholi completed her post-graduate medical education from the University of Toronto and completed a one-year fellowship in Addiction Psychiatry.

Dr. Sarah Hoque
MBChB, FRCPC

Dr. Hoque completed her medical degree at University College Dublin in Ireland.  After completing her Neurology residency and two fellowships in Sleep Medicine and Movement Disorders,  she joined UT Physicians and served as an assistant professor.  

She currently serves as a consultant physician with PEAK Sleep Burlington.

Dr. Howard Awad
MD, FRCPC, ABSM

Dr. Howard Awad founded our first two clinics in Oakville and in Burlington in 1996. He is a recognized Sleep expert in Canada and considered a pioneer of Sleep Medicine in Ontario. He has frequently been featured in news publications and appeared as a television spokesperson.
